D,B was invited by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles to present a renovation scheme that would welcome the public with an inclusive multi-purpose courtyard, cafe and programming space. Our proposal transforms the existing parking lot into an expanded indoor/outdoor program space through a literal opening up of the museum to the neighborhood. Large glass doors can be positioned depending on exhibit and programming needs, and a new demountable roofdeck with solar panels adds a maximum of square footage with minimal construction.
