DESIGN, BITCHES
Design, Bitches is a California based one-stop-shop design firm that specializes in architecture, concept & interior design with offices in Los Angeles and San Jose (Bay Area). Led by architects Catherine Johnson and RA Rudolph, our experienced team are creative thought leaders who work side-by-side with clients to exceed your expectations and bring projects to life.
Each project we create is unique - crafted specifically for you. We care about heightening the everyday experience and bringing joy to everything we do. We are proud to work with a local community of fabricators, artisans and builders who help make these shared visions a reality. Since our founding in 2010, our team has completed over 200 projects from start to finish including 125 built projects and counting.
Design, Bitches has been included on AN Interior’s Top 50 list for the past 7 years and the Wallpaper* 400 list, profiled in the Royal Institute of British Architect’s book 100 Women: Architects in Practice, and has been widely published in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Dezeen, Forbes, Elle Décor Italia and other international publications.
Design, Bitches is licensed to practice architecture in CA, OR & TX, and is WBE, WOSB, SB (Micro) and DBE certified.

CATHERINE JOHNSON, AIA
Founding Partner / Principal Architect
Co-Founder of Design, Bitches, Catherine Johnson co-directs the Los Angeles-based firm and leads the San Jose office. As a creative thought leader, she pushes boundaries of how places look, perform and feel at a human scale in a changing world. Her passion for blending creative risk-taking with pragmatic design has defined an award-winning body of work recognized internationally. She enjoys fostering connections and creating enduring relationships with creative partners and communities.
Catherine is a founding member of the University of Oregon Interior Architecture Advisory Council, has served on the ACLA community outreach committee, and as a Walsh Distinguished Visiting Professor in Interior Architecture at the University of Oregon. She continuously participates in various professional organization awards program and academic juries and lectures regularly in the United States and abroad. She holds a MArch from Sci-ARC and a BIARC from the University of Oregon.
RA RUDOLPH, AIA
Founding Partner / Principal Architect
Co-founder of Design, Bitches, RA Rudolph co-directs the Los Angeles based firm. RA leads architecture and concept design work for innovative retail startups, residences and cultural venues with an irreverent attitude and deep expertise. They enjoy collaborating closely with creative clients, builders and fabricators to challenge expectations and design spaces tailored to their specific needs. With a background in philosophy and architecture, RA believes in the power of the sub-conscious to influence spatial experience, and that spaces and places are not complete without the people that use them.
RA has taught at the University of Oregon and Woodbury University and participates regularly in AIA Awards program and academic juries. They direct the firm’s Exploring the Arts Intern program, and lecture regularly in the United States and abroad. RA holds a MArch from Sci-ARC and a Master in Philosophy from the University of Paris 8-Vincennes-Saint-Denis.
