JEAN DOUSSET

  • Location: West Hollywood, CA

    Size: 550 sf

Design, Bitches has designed the first boutique for designer lab diamond and fine jewelry brand Jean Dousset. The great-great-grandson of Louis Cartier, Dousset brings the family tradition into the 21st century with a bold design vision and commitment to never-mined gems. After a decade of bespoke creations, its first physical storefront marks a milestone for the brand’s liberated legacy.

The design pays homage to the intensive process of transforming a diamond in the rough with a gradual sequence from the front to back of house that reflects the steps of cleaving, cutting, setting, and polishing. An airy, light-filled entry space proceeds to an intimate salon where the magic of creating jewelry comes alive, echoing the “signature stone” hidden behind the center of each JD engagement ring—that personal touch that makes each piece timelessly meaningful.

All-custom, locally-fabricated sculptural elements punctuate the space, displaying the collection and embodying Dousset’s craftsmanship. A crystalline sculpture polished from stainless steel is suspended above a chiseled concrete table—the diamond and the rough—and niches set into undulating walls hold pedestals that rise like growing crystals to showcase each piece of jewelry. A palette of natural materials warms the space: renewable cork floors are soft under-foot, cases gleam with polished nickel. Surfaces hum with a handcrafted touch: Los Angeles-manufactured Portola lime wash finishes all the walls and ceilings, and custom wallpaper from French brand Élitis enlivens the salon. The creative partnership between Jean Dousset and Design, Bitches melds iconoclasm and craft to offer uncompromised luxury—a collaboration to be continued through additional boutiques on the near horizon.
